Rangatahi Projection Competition

Have your projection art installation featured at HighLight: Carnival of Lights 2023!

Late Night Lights Trust, in partnership with Streamliner Productions are proud to present the HighLight 2023 Rangatahi Projection Competition. If you’re aged between 13-21 years old with an interest in art, technology or just learning new skills then this is an opportunity not to be missed.

You will receive practical support, equipment and the software required to turn your art creation into a digital projection masterpiece with accompanying soundscape.


  • Entries are open from 27 February – 13 March 2023
  • To enter you need to complete the application form including:
      • A name for the projection
      • Up to 250 words outlining the plot or description of your projection.
      • Up to 50 words detailing the audio that will accompany your projection.
      • One drawing of a scene to give judges an idea of the look and feel of your projection
      • Up to 100 words about you or the group entering
  • Competition is open to individuals or groups, all aged between 13-21 years old who reside in the Wellington region (Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti and the Wairarapa).
  • Entries must loosely fit with our theme of “Opposites” or with the objectives of our 2023 charity partner AutismNZ
  • Entries and completed installations must be appropriate for all ages.
  • Completed projection installations must be between 1-2 minutes in length
  • Projection installations, including soundscape, must be completed by Monday 3 April 2023.
  • What Late Night Lights Trust will provide:
      • Software and training to make the projection.
      • Mentoring
      • Data Projector to test your projection.


  1. Ensure you/your group meet the competition criteria and understand the terms and conditions (see the competition details document).
  2. Complete the online application form and submit with supporting documents by Monday 13 March 2023.


  • One entry per person or group
  • Intellectual property of the finished projection is equally owned and can be used for purposes of promoting future events.
  • Late Night Lights Trust reserve full rights to display the projection now and in future.
